Today’s cricket has become much different than the past. With the induction of shorter formats like T20 and even T10, the competition has become quite tough among the players. Many cricketers are in the spotlight for their impressive and brilliant performances.

Virat Kohli Vs Babar Azam

Taking into consideration the consistency of performance in recent years, let’s take two exceptional players i.e. Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. Both the players have been performing consistently since their debut and for this reason, both are constantly compared to each other. So, let us do a comparison of our own and see who comes out on top.

Virat Kohli is currently leading the Indian National Side. The skipper is well known for his aggressive behavior on the field. But in contrast, he is calm as a cucumber while he’s batting. He debuted for the National Team in 2008 against Sri Lanka.

Kohli was the one who captained Indian U-19 to win the World Cup in 2008. He then advanced to the National Team in the same year. For his back to back outstanding performances, he was given the tag of “ODI Specialist” until 2013 when he scored Test centuries against Australia and South Africa. He showed his class in Test cricket to the world.

Virat Kohli has continuously improved his game in every format. He has been shattering many records which include:

  • Fastest to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year.
  • Fastest to score 4000 Test runs as a captain.
  • The first captain to score 200 runs in a test match for the 10th time, leaving behind the likes of Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting.
  • The first player to score 300+ runs in a bilateral series on 6 different occasions.
  • Fastest to reach 10000 runs.
  • Most ODI runs scored in a calendar year as a captain.
  • Most number of the 50s in T20s.

The list doesn’t end here. Kohli in real is a record-breaking machine and that’s why he is considered to be the best batsman of this generation and one of the greatest of all time. The way he is breaking and making new records, soon he may become the player with most records under his belt.

Babar Azam, who is currently the vice-captain of the Pakistan National Team, made his debut in 2015. The right-handed batsman plays as an opener for his side and is quite consistent with his performance. Babar can also play on lower positions according to the needs of the team.

Babar led the Pakistan U-19 team in the World Cup 2012 where the team didn’t perform well. However, for his individual performance in first-class cricket, he was given the chance to debut for the national side in 2015.

He played his first match against Zimbabwe where he scored an impressive half-century that earned him a place in the Test squad for the next series against Sri Lanka. He wasn’t given a chance in that series. His record isn’t up to the mark in Test cricket but he has some very good numbers in ODIs and T20s.

Let’s have a look at the international records that Babar Azam holds:

  • Most runs scored after first 25 ODIs.
  • Most runs scored in a 3 match ODI series.
  • Joint-fastest to score 1000 runs in ODIs.
  • The fastest batsman in the world to score his 7th ODI century.
  • First batsman to score 5 consecutive centuries.
  • Most runs scored in a calendar year.

The 24-year-old has a lot of cricket left to play. He is currently the most consistent youngster in the Pakistan National Team. His average of 50+ in both ODIs and T20s show that he can soon become one of the best run scorers in the world.

Based on the stats and performance, Virat Kohli has a clear edge over Babar Azam till now. However, Babar’s ODI average is very close to that of Kohli’s and he even has a better T20 average than Kohli. So, who will be the next best batsman? We will have to wait for the next few years to know.
