The Indian Premier League is now nearing its end and the qualifier stage is about to begin. As the end of the tournament is approaching near, BCCI decided to announce all the venues for the upcoming qualifiers and final of IPL 2019. Surprisingly this time the final of Indian Premier League will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad.

Final match shifts to Hyderabad

The final of IPL was scheduled to be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, however, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association did not get the permission to open three stands i.e. I, J and K due to security situations. The grand match is expected to host a huge crowd, therefore, the authorities could not afford to close any stand hence the decision was made to shift the venue to Hyderabad.

The venue change was hinted early on by a BCCI official as well. He said:

“We will have discussions with TNCA as we don’t want to deprive CSK their right of playing at home. But three empty stands is an issue. Hyderabad and Bangalore are the two standby venues for two playoffs, Eliminator and final.”

Qualifiers to be hosted by Chennai

Chennai will now host Qualifier 1 on May 7 while Vizag Cricket Stadium will host the Eliminator and Qualifier 2. Even though the IPL playoffs are generally hosted in the venues of the winners and runners-up, certain challenges made the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announce a shift of venues.

Hyderabad was expected to host the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 of IPL 12, but due to the elections scheduled on May 6, 10 and 14, that will not be possible as the police will not be in a position to provide the required security and permissions. Vizag was kept as back-up and will now host the Eliminator on May 8 and Qualifier 2 on May 10. Now that the venues have been decided, the ticket sales will be opening soon as well.

Although it is not decided yet who will be playing the grand finale, we are quite sure the quality of play will be nothing short of excellent. IPL has hosted some fantastic games till now and the temperature is expected to rise even more now so gear up!
