The duo of South African speedsters, Lungi Ngidi, and Anrich Nortje will not be seen in action at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 due to injuries picked up in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, confirmed South African team manager.

A big blow to KKR
Nortje’s injury adds to the woes of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who have already lost their two main pacers Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. The franchise earlier announced KC Cariappa and Sandeep Warrier as replacements for the under-19 stars. The team’s fast bowling will not be as impactful now as it would have been had there been the likes of Nortje, Mavi and Nagarkoti. It would have been Nortje’s first stint with the cash-rich league after he had impressed KKR’s coach Jacques Kallis with his sheer pace in the Mzansi Super League (MSL).
Nortje’s impressive performance in the MSL, where he regularly clocked speeds of 150+ and took 8 wickets in 3 matches, also earned him a national call up. He debuted in ODI cricket against Sir Lanka earlier this month.
Lungi Ngidi, who was set to feature for the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), picked up a side-strain in the recently concluded ODI series against Sir Lanka. He was also a part of the IPL winning Chennai squad last year.
The replacements for the injured pacers are not yet announced by the respective franchises.
