South Africa announced squad for test series against Sri Lanka

South Africa Squad against Sri Lanka Test Series announced

South Africa has announced the squad for upcoming SA vs SL test series. They have included the uncapped allrounder, Wiaan Mulder. The 20-year-old all-rounder is the only addition to the Test squad which recently clinched a 3-0 win against Pakistan.

Wiaan Mulder included in South Africa squad

Last year Mulder earned a test call against Australia but didn’t make his debut. He has played 8 ODIs for the Proteas since making his ODI debut in October 2017 against Bangladesh. However, he missed most of the series against Zimbabwe in Sep-Oct 2018 and was out of action until the last ODI against Pakistan due to an ankle injury.

Wiaan Mulder played 3 first-class matches for the Lions in the domestic league in January. In his last game against Knights, he scored 146 runs. He also picked up 8 wickets from his earlier games against Titans and Dolphins combined. He also played the last ODI against Pakistan, picking up 1 wicket for 20 runs.

“Wiaan has been part of our strategic thinking in developing a batting all-rounder for the Test squad for some time,” said Cricket South Africa selection convener Linda Zondi. “His injury in the white-ball series against Zimbabwe last year came at an unfortunate time and we are gradually working him back into the Proteas set-up.”

Injury Update on Lungi Ngidi

Lungi Ngidi, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, remained sideline and the selectors are not looking to rush him back in the team. Lungi Ngidi had featured in the 4-Day Domestic Series but the selectors said that Ngidi will take time to regain his full fitness.
