So, which foreign player is new to the platinum category and who has been retained? Let’s see.
Chris Lynn who was ruled out of the Pakistan Super League 2018 edition because of shoulder injury is now available for the upcoming season. The destructive right-handed batsman might be the highlight of Lahore Qalandars in the 2019 edition if he plays from their side.
He, along with the likes of Fakhar Zaman and Anton Devcich might create some serious problems for the opposition bowlers. The hard-hitter has shown a tremendous form in recent matches. He has scored 437 runs in last 5 matches with an average of 87.4 per inning, ringing the danger alarm for the opponents already.
AB De Villiers
The most awaited star, AB De Villiers is here as well for PSL 2019. After retiring from all three formats of international cricket, the South African superstar announced his availability for PSL 2019 in a video message. He seemed quite excited to participate in the upcoming edition of Pakistan Super League.
De Villiers, who is one of the most decorated and stylish players in cricket history, has many records under his name. He currently holds the record of fastest fifty and fastest century in ODIs.
He also has the highest runs average in world cups. His addition to the PSL will surely give a boost to the league’s popularity.
The former skipper of Australian Cricket Team – Steve Smith will also be a part of PSL for the first time. The star cricketer is currently facing a 12-month ban from playing international cricket over ball-tampering allegations.
Steve Smith has shown an impressive improvement since his international debut. His consistency in the game has helped his team win many matches. The PSL franchises will surely be looking forward to having the Aussie star on their side.
Luke Ronchi & Imran Tahir
Luke Ronchi and Imran Tahir have been retained in the platinum category. Both players had an outstanding season in the 2018 edition of PSL.
Luke Ronchi played a key role in Islamabad United’s title win this year. He was the top scorer of the league and also made fastest fifty in PSL. Imran Tahir, on the other hand, was also in great form.
The Pakistani born – South African spinner had most of the batsmen in his pocket. He was among the only two bowlers who were able to do hat-tricks in PSL’s 3rd edition, along with Junaid Khan who was also in Multan Sultans.
Brandon McCullum, who captained Lahore Qalandars in the 2018 edition has again been given place in the platinum category which seems a little unfair. The Kiwi star who is well known for his aggressive cricket was unable to perform well in PSL 2018.
He wasn’t good enough to deliver as a captain as well as a batsman for his team which cost them quite many losses. The PSL fans will be expecting an improved performance from him in the upcoming edition.
The overall list of foreign platinum players seems quite balanced. It has got match-winning all-rounders like Sunil Narine, Keiron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, and Thisara Perera. Bowlers like Mitchell McClenaghan and Rashid Khan who is ranked 1st in ODI and 2nd in T20, have the ability to change the whole scenario of the match.
