PSL 2019

PSL 2019 All Teams’ Squads, Their Strengths and Weak Points

The exponential growth of Pakistan Super League is turning out some serious headache for the other T20 leagues as the star players who previously refused to be part of this league, showed great interest to be part of the PSL bandwagon.

The PSL 2019 Draft wrapped up last month and now the players on board are gearing to showcase their talent in PSL 4 starting from 14th February 2019.

The PSL 2019 all teams’ squads are aligned up for this edition and all the teams look balanced on paper regardless of how they execute their plans on the match day.

The Teams in Pakistan Super League were allowed to place 20-member squad following the category-wise limitation. The best part which gave the PSL 2019 Teams a breath of fresh air was the PSL retention policy. Now each team is allowed to retain max 10 players without worrying about the categories portion.

Number of Teams in Pakistan Super League

In this PSL 4th edition, six Teams will be battling in for the prestigious ‘Champions’ title and of course the trophy as well.

Confusion regarding the number of teams in PSL is making waves on social media as the rumors telling that in PSL 4 there will be 7 teams. It should be noted here that all the buzz about the increase in PSL teams this edition is false. There will be no PSL7th or 8th team, and like last year, only 6 teams will be exhibiting what they have got.

Name of 6th PSL Team is yet to be announced, which will be featuring in place of Multan Sultans.

Here are the Full PSL 2019 Team Squads for you with their respective categories:

Karachi Kings 2019 Squad

Platinum: Mohammad Amir, Babar Azam, Colin Munro

Diamond: Usman Khan Shinwari, Colin Ingram, Imad Wasim

Gold: Mohammad Rizwan, Ravi Bopara, Sikandar Raza

Silver: Awais Zia, Aaron Summers, Usama Mir, Sohail Khan, Iftikhar Ahmad

Emerging: Ali Imran, Abrar Ahmed

Supplementary: Aamer Yamin, Ben Dunk, Liam Livingstone, Jaahid Ali

Expansion Pick: Umer Khan

Karachi Kings Strengths

You can’t deny the fact that Karachi Kings is the side that has both the Pakistan Cricket team’s current best batsman and bowler. The Cricket maniacs would know whom we are talking about here. Of course, Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir.

Babar Azam has been the ‘middle stump’ of Pakistan these days and the leftie pacer has been troubling the modern-day greats for quite some time now. And everyone knows what Aamir is capable of.

Karachi Kings Weaknesses

They do not have very big names on board. Although that isn’t an issue that can’t be overcome but still, when it’s about the nail-biting games, you require a handful of experienced lads in your side.

Peshawar Zalmi 2019 Squad

Platinum: Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Keiron Pollard

Diamond: Darren Sammy, Kamran Akmal, Misbah ul Haq

Gold: Liam Dawson, Dawid Malan, Umer Amin

Silver: Umaid Asif, Khalid Usman, Wayne Madsen, Sohaib Maqsood, Jamal Anwar

Emerging: Sameen Gul, Nabi Gul

Supplementary: Waqar Salamkheil, Chris Jordan, Ibtisam Sheikh, Samiullah

Replacement Pick: Andre Fletcher

Cover Pick: Imam Ul Haq

Peshawar Zalmi Strengths

The lethal pace duo Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali can give sleepless nights to the opponents and with Pollard joining them as a platinum category, it gets even better.

Peshawar Zalmi Weaknesses

Since the departure of Afridi two years back, Zalmis have failed to get some game-changing all-rounder for them and they will have to find someone to get in boots of Afridi to make them thrive. Hafeez leaving Zalmis was another blow to the team.

Lahore Qalandars 2019 Squad

Platinum: Fakhar Zaman, AB De Villiers, Mohammad Hafeez

Diamond: Yasir Shah, Carlos Brathwaite, Corey Anderson

Gold: Anton Devich, Rahat Ali, Sandeep Lamichhane

Silver: Shaheen Afridi, Hassan Khan, Agha Salman, Sohail Akhtar, Haris Sohail

Emerging: Mohammad Imran, Umair Maqsood

Supplementary: Brendon Taylor, Gauhar Ali, Aizaz Cheema, Harris Rauf

Cover Pick: David Wiese, Hardus Viljoen

Expansion Pick: Saad Ali

Lahore Qalandars Strengths

LQ is waiting for the right click, which actually they failed to have with Gayle and McCullum. But this year they have AB de Villiers to do that task.

Keeping his brilliance in view, it doesn’t look impossible. Also, Hafeez is another platinum category addition adding tons of experience to the side.

Lahore Qalandars Weaknesses

They have the artillery with them but they fail to execute rightly on the game day. There were management issues and many rumors circulating about the dressing room last season, which didn’t allow the Qalandars to deliver.

Now, they are desperately looking to overcome these issues, and desperation is not always a good thing in Cricket.

Quetta Gladiators 2019 Squad

Platinum: Sarfraz Ahmed, Sunil Narine, Dwayne Bravo

Diamond: Shane Watson, Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Nawaz

Gold: Rilee Rossouw, Umar Akmal, Fawad Ahmed

Silver: Anwar Ali, Saud Shakil, Mohammad Asghar, Danish Aziz, Ahsan Ali

Emerging: Ghulam Mudassar, Nasim Shah

Supplementary: Harry Gurney, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Azam Khan, Jalat Khan

Cover Pick: Dwayne Smith, Max Waller

Expansion Pick: Muhammad Irfan Jr

Quetta Gladiators Strengths

The 2-time runner-ups have Narine and Bravo this year with them, and both are very capable of making the Gladiators the Champions of PSL 4 this year.

Quetta Gladiators Weaknesses

They are known as the chokers of PSL. The reason is that they managed to reach the finals twice, but didn’t manage to deliver a very good performance. They are still trying to lift the trophy for that very reason.

Islamabad United 2019 Squad

Platinum: Shadab Khan, Luke Ronchi, Faheem Ashraf

Diamond: Mohammad Sami, Asif Ali, Ian Bell

Gold: Rumman Raees, Samit Patel, Philip Salt

Silver: Hussain Talat, Sahibzada Farhan, Zafar Gohar, Waqas Maqsood, Cameron Delport

Emerging: Musa Khan, Nasir Nawaz

Supplementary: Wayne Parnell, Zahir Khan, Amad Butt, Rizwan Hussain

Islamabad United Strengths

They have all the promising talent on cards with them, namely Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan, and Asif Ali. These young guns have proved their mettle in the previous editions and are capable to replicate this year again.

Islamabad United Weaknesses

They won’t have their ‘godfather’, I mean captain Misbah with them. His absence can give them a pain in the ass if Ronchi fails to carry on the team rightly.

Multan Sultans 2019 Squad

Platinum: Shoaib Malik, Steve Smith, Shahid Afridi

Diamond: Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Joe Denly

Gold: Shan Masood, Qais Ahmed, Nicholas Pooran

Silver: Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Irfan Khan, Umar Siddiq, Laurie Evans, Nauman Ali

Emerging: Mohammad Junaid, Mohammad Ilyas

Supplementary: Dan Christian, Tom Moores, Ali Shafiq, Shakeel Ansar

Replacement Pick: Chris Green

Multan Sultans Strengths

Too much of experience! You can’t ask for anything else when you have Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Steve Smith on the same side.

Multan Sultans Weaknesses

They lack lower-order power hitters and putting the burden on Afridi’s shoulders alone can put the team in jeopardy keeping in view the record of Lala.

We will be adding more news as they come. Keep visiting Cricket Howzat.
