In an unprecedented move, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named an all-women selection committee headed by former cricketer Urooj Mumtaz.

Other members of the selection panel include Marina Iqbal and Asmavia Iqbal, replacing Jalaluddin and Akhtar Sarfraz. The decision was taken to highlight the regulatory body’s increased focus on promoting women cricket in Pakistan.

Recently, Marina Iqbal also became the first woman commentator from Pakistan.

PCB Managing Director, Wasim Khan announced the new members of the selection committee, thanking the outgoing members for their services.

“Women’s cricket will be an important priority moving forward and this has been reflected in the selection of such a relevant and dynamic committee. Their appointments will go a long way towards accelerating the progress of our senior women’s team.”

The committee’s first assignment will be choosing a pool of players for the Pakistan tour to South Africa in May.

“Offering merit-based opportunities to exceptionally talented women who can help drive and influence the game spells a new and exciting era at the PCB. Urooj is part of the PCB Cricket Committee, so her relevance to the modern game will further benefit the direction we are aiming to take the women and girls’ cricket.”

The new head of the women’s selection committee thanked PCB for the opportunity and encouraged young girls to take up the sport and represent Pakistan globally.
