Big News: Pakistan announce squad for World Cup 2019

A 15-player squad for Pakistan was announced by the chief selector Inzamam ul Haq for the ICC World Cup 2019 today. The same team led by Sarfaraz Ahmed is going to complete their England tour first, and in case of any exceptional performances, reserve players can also make it into the squad for the mega event.

The top 15 were chosen from a list of 23 probable, who underwent fitness tests and participated in training sessions at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from April 13 to 17.

Final 15 for World Cup 2019

Here are the lucky 15 who have been selected

  1. Sarfaraz Ahmed (c)
  2. Babar Azam
  3. Fakhar Zaman
  4. Imam ul Haq
  5. Haris Sohail
  6. Shoaib Malik
  7. Mohammad Hafeez
  8. Faheem Ashraf
  9. Abid Ali
  10. Shadab Khan
  11. Hasan Ali
  12. Imad Wasim
  13. Shaheen Shah Afridi
  14. Mohammad Junaid
  15. Mohammad Husnain

Under the leadership of captain Sarfaraz one can expect the team to put up a good fight in every match because Sarfaraz himself is a great fighter. The presence of veteran players Shoaib Malik and Hafeez will also be helpful for Sarfaraz whereas the young blood would keep the momentum high for the team. There are heavy expectations from Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan and Fakhar Zaman who made Pakistan proud in Champions trophy, now it’s time for them to shine in the World Cup too.

The inclusion of Mohammad Hafeez and Imad Wasim is still subject to the result of fitness test, if the players fail to clear the test then Amir and Asif can get an entry too but it is still early to say whether this will be possible or not.

The team is scheduled to depart for England on Tuesday, April 23. All 17 players selected for the England tour will have a chance to make an entry into World Cup too. Pakistan will play their first World Cup match against West Indies at Trent Bridge on May 31, after playing warm up matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Big fish out of World Cup 2019

Although Mohammad Amir and Asif Ali are in the reserve yet it is shocking to not see them in the final 15. Usman Khan Shinwari, Wahab Riaz, Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad are also amongst the unlucky few who have been left out of the squad. Although Umar Akmal performed exceedingly well in PSL and Pakistan Cup yet he still could not make the cut and must be disappointed with the verdict. Despite the absence of these players, we still believe the team has a very strong player lineup.

Although one cannot predict who will win the World Cup but we are hopeful that this year Pakistan will lift the trophy. All the best to team Pakistan!
