Pak vs Aus 5th ODI 2019 - Post Match

In the last ODI match of the series, Haris Sohail’s brilliant ton went in vain as the Kangaroos finished the series, whitewashing the Men in Green.

Match Report

With the series already wrapped up by Australia, Pakistan looked for their first victory of the series in their bid to avoid a whitewash. Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first.

1st Innings: Australia’s top order is frightening

Usman Khawaja has had a fantastic month or so, demolishing both the Sub-Continent neighbors. He has found a wonderful partner in Finch and the pair together have been destructive, to say the least. Same was the case today – both the openers scoring for fun.

Usman started off very briskly with Finch, moving on to his half-century in no time.

The pair scored another century stand as Finch moved past the 50 run mark for the 4th time this series.

Usman Khawaja kept on playing his game, looking all set to score another century. He was joined by Marsh after Finch got dismissed for 53. The pair put up a partnership of 80 runs, with Marsh getting to a half-century of his own along the way.

Shinwari, however, spoiled the party as he broke the partnership, dismissing Usman for a heart-breaking 98.

Maxwell heats things up in Dubai

Maxwell came out in the middle and started striking the ball right from the get-go. The Aussies got themselves another 50+ run stand as Maxwell raced to his half-century in just 26 balls with 10 boundaries.

Maxwell lit up the Dubai Cricket Stadium with his 33 ball 70 runs that included 13 boundaries. Pakistan got a couple of wickets at the death as Maxwell and Marsh fell but Australia managed to post a total of 3277 in their 50. Shinwari was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 49.

2nd Innings: Haris’ masterpiece

The centurion from last match, Abid Ali, had a night to forget as he fell for a golden duck today, edging Behrendorff to the keeper. However, Shan Masood made the most of his opportunity as he played a brilliant inning. He found the perfect partner in Haris and the pair got to a 100 run stand with Shan bringing up his half-century. He was trapped in front by Zampa as he fell for 50. Rizwan soon perished for 12 but Haris kept the scoreboard ticking. He was joined by Akmal and the pair put up another century stand, as Harris brought up his 2nd ton of the series.

However, Australia regained control after getting both the batsmen back in the pavilion and despite Imad’s 49 off 33 at the death, Pakistan fell 20 runs short, losing the series 5-0 as a consequence. Behrendorff stood out with 3 wickets in his 8 overs.

Plenty of positives for the Men in Green

Despite losing the series 5-0, Pakistan had a number of good performances before the World Cup. Haris Sohail scored his 2 career centuries in this series and his form will be crucial in Pakistan’s bid for a World Cup triumph. Umar Akmal also showed flashes of brilliance as did Shinwari with the ball. Abid Ali, debuting at 31, made a glorious century on his debut and looked a real classy player.

Pakistan start of their campaign against the Windies on the 31st of May.
