Attack on Bangladesh team at christchurch mosque in New Zealand

New Zealand vs Bangladesh tour just took a drastic turn as shots were fired at a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand while the Bangladesh team was there for Friday prayers.

Narrowly escaping the ‘Frightening’ Attack

Multiple people have been reportedly shot at a shooting at Masjid Al Noor in Christchurch. A number of Bangladesh Cricket Team members were also present there for the Friday prayers.

Luckily, the Team and rest of the crew managed to escape right in time and immediately took refuge at Hagley Oval, before safely returning to their hotel (Confirmed by Bangladesh Cricket’s official Twitter handle).

Mohammad Isam (ESPN’s Bangladesh correspondent), who has been accompanying the team in this tour revealed the details to NZ Herald, of the experience encountered by the team at Christchurch shooting attack. He said,

“They [the Bangladesh players] were just outside the mosque about to get off from the bus and go into the mosque when they heard shooting and a lot of people running out and they saw someone wounded in front of them.

And seeing that, they didn’t get off the bus. About 10 minutes later they ran out of the bus and ran through Hagley Park and into the Hagley Oval.”

Isam also uploaded a video clip on his Twitter account, which shows how the team managed to flee the horrifying scene.

As of this moment, the matter is still under active investigation and the residents of the nearby areas have been advised to avoid traveling until the situation gets under control.

Tamim and Musfiqur Frightened by the incident

Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim described how “frightening” their experience was and how they were “extremely lucky” to escape the incident.

As for the ongoing series between Bangladesh and New Zealand, the 3-match one-day international series concluded with the Kiwis whitewashing the Tigers. The 3-Test series was also claimed by the Hometown Heroes after they won the first 2 matches.

Today’s incident has shaken Bangladesh Team down to the core and communication for holding the final Test match on Saturday as scheduled is underway as of this moment. It remains yet to be seen whether the Bangladesh team agrees to resume normal operations or not.
