Multan Sultans have been forced to name the replacement for their star pick this season – Nicholas Pooran due to his international duties for West Indies. Pooran has been in amazing form in franchise cricket across the globe. The left-handed star wicketkeeper smashed 324 runs in the T10 league last year with an average of 54.00 and a strike rate of 245.45 being the highest run-scorer in the tournament.
But to make for the loss, Multan Sultans head-coach Johan Botha named a decent replacement in the form of two-times T20 World Cup winner, Johnson Charles who is immensely experienced in this format of the game. Charles can also keep wickets and is a big-hitting opening batsman. His T20 cricket stats are decent as well with 3,107 runs in 135 t20 matches at an average of 24.08.
Johnson Charles has been picked in the silver category by Multan Sultans and he expressed his delight on representing the city of Saints for the 4th edition of PSL.
“Personally speaking, I am really looking forward to sharing the dressing room with guys like Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi. They have played so much cricket and I am sure they will have great things to share with me and with the rest of our squad as well.”
Nicholas Pooran would’ve provided some big hitting options at the top of the order with the form he was in. But unluckily for the Sultans, his good form earned him a spot in the West Indies squad for the ODI series against England which starts on 20th February.
With the inclusion of Johnson Charles, Multan Sultans have now one of the strongest squads among all the PSL franchises as they have already the likes of Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik & Andre Russel on their side. That is why many cricket analysts are rating them as one of the strong favorites for PSL season 4.
