IPL 2019: KKR Announce Replacements for U19 Stars Nagarkoti and Mavi

KC Cariappa

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 starts on 23 March and the preparations for the grand event are in full swing. The teams are mulling over their best combinations for solid starts to their campaigns. Kolkatta Knight Riders aka KKR has now announced replacements of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi to strengthen their teams.

Official Announcement

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed KC Cariappa and Sandeep Warrier to replace the injured Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Nagarkoti also missed out the IPL 2018 with a foot injury. Mavi, however, played for Kolkatta last season.

Both the signings are not new to the IPL arena as they have played for different teams in the previous years. Cariappa has played for KKR as well as Kings XI Punjab while Warrier enjoyed a stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Replacing the injured pace duo will be a tough ask as both Mavi and Nagarkoti are impact players. The young pacers emerged to prominence in the Under 19 Cricket World Cup in 2018.

The injury-marred franchise will hope that the replacements can live up to the expectations and play their role in the team’s success.

KKR captain, Dinesh Karthik believes that his team can clinch the trophy in the 12th edition of the league. The team has the right mix of local and international bowlers to form a formidable bowling unit. Pacers like Lockie Ferguson and Harry Gurney, Prasidh Krishna and South African Anrich Nortje will be complementing the spinners including the seasoned campaigners, Kuldeep Yadav, and Piyush Chawla.

The two-time IPL winners (2012 and 2014) will play their first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Kolkata on 24 March.
