Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been fascinating for producing top-notch cricketers, nail-biting contests and giving the opportunity to players from associate nations. This time around, there might be a chance for Iceland’s mystery spinner, Kató Jónsson to represent Kings XI Punjab. If he does so, it will be a historic moment for Iceland cricket as he will be the first cricketer from the country to play in the IPL.
The Nordic cricketer says it’s unbelievable’.
“From watching the IPL on my computer to possibly becoming the first Nordic player to play in it is beyond my wildest dreams. I’m ready and can’t wait to get started.”
He is currently in Mohali and will undergo trials to seal a season-long deal with the Kings XI Punjab.

According to his bio on Iceland Cricket’s website, his cricketing hero is none other than KXIP captain, Ravichandran Ashwin. He has taken 479 wickets in 1931.0 overs at the domestic circuit and he made waves for his mystery delivery called fíflið or the back-spinner. The mystery surrounding this ball is that its pace gets dropped after bouncing, making it tough for the batsmen to pick it up.
Sometimes life takes extraordinary twists and turns. I am so excited to be visiting Mohali tomorrow for a truly extraordinary opportunity. Áfram Ísland! #IPL2019

The CEO of Kings XI Punjab is excited about having him onboard. He said:
“This is what the IPL is all about. This proves that cricket is truly a global sport that knows no boundaries. To have a cricketer from Iceland in VIVO IPL would be historic and a testament to our belief that opportunity doesn’t discriminate.”
It would be great to see more such talented cricketers given the opportunity at an event like IPL.
