PSL 2019

Islamabad United announced their captain for PSL 4 and its not Ronchi!

Islamabad Captain for PSL 4

Defending champions and the only franchise to win the PSL twice, Islamabad United who earlier announced the young Pakistani leg spinner Shadab Khan as the Vice-captain of the team just announced the captain of the team. Everyone was waiting for the announcement as the franchise shared a teaser earlier about the man who is going to lead the team in PSL 4.

Expected names for captaincy

  • Luke Ronchi

The veteran Kiwi keeper and the player of the tournament in PSL 2018, Luke Ronchi was expected to take over the captaincy this season because of the lack of options that they had since the exit of Misbah-Ul-Haq.

  • Rumman Raees

The left arm young Pakistani fast bowler was named vice-captain of the franchise for 2017/2018 under the captaincy of Misbah and was one of the options to lead the side this year but his fitness has been a constant problem since last one year.

Muhammad Sami going to lead Islamabad United in PSL 2019

This came as a surprise to many when Ali Naqvi today announced Muhammad Sami as the captain of the franchise because no one expected him being given this responsibility as he doesn’t have much experience of captaining a side in the past. But the speedster who turns 38 after 15 days is certainly one of the most experienced fast bowlers in the league and also the leading wicket-taker for the franchise in the HBL PSL.

Have a look at Ali Naqvi announcing the captain of his franchise:

He certainly has some serious pace even at this age but sometimes his inconsistent lines have caused troubles for him, one of the reasons why his career has all been about making come-backs to the international side.

This is certainly an interesting move having a fast bowler as the captain of the franchise, but we may expect Muhammad Sami to use all his experience of different leagues and lead the side from the front by his own individual performance.

Having played for franchises in the Bangladesh Premier League, Sussex and loads of domestic cricket in Pakistan, this might prove to be another golden opportunity for Muhammad Sami to grab the limelight and get into contention for the World cup in England as we know the pace battery of Pakistan is struggling at the moment!

Twitter Reactions

On Twitter, some are supporting the decision saying that it can be a good move for the side, while others criticized it:

PSL is going to start from 14th February, and we all are excited about this season. Tell us what you feel about the decision and what are your expectations for this year’s PSL.
