IPL 2019: Match 38 – Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (Post-Match)

In the 38th match of this year’s IPL – Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, a master-blaster of 131 runs from the Dynamic Duo sent Kolkata packing as Sunrisers won the match by 9 wickets.

Match Report

Kolkata faced Sunrisers as they came into this match on the back of a 4-match losing streak. Sunrisers, on the other hand, ended a 3-match losing streak of their own after they emerged victorious against the mighty CSK. With SRH looking to add to KKR’s 4-match losing tally, they won the toss and elected to bowl first.

1st Innings: Blistering start for the Knight Riders

Narine, except for a few innings, has been in absolutely exceptional form with the bat. Here today as well, he got the crowd standing on their feet after his 8 ball 25 inning. His innings included 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Sunrisers take control

The eventful innings of Narine came to an end after he was cleaned up by Ahmed after getting hit for a hat trick of fours.

Lynn played a careful inning from one end on a slow pitch but Sunrisers weathered the early storm by picking wickets from the other end.

Gill and Rana fell for 3 and 11 while Karthik was run-out for 6 courtesy a bullet throw by Shankar.

KKR would have been in more trouble but it wasn’t meant to be after Singh was dropped on 4 in the deep as it went for six. This allowed him to add a useful 30 runs to the total as he brought up a 50-run stand with Lynn. Lynn also brought up his half-century from the other end.

Russell also added 15 at the death after the fall of these two batsmen as Kolkata finished with 159/9 on the board. Ahmed stood out after picking up 3 scalps for 33 in his 4.

2nd Innings: You have been WARNE’d!

If SRH were to go on to lift this year’s IPL, a large part of it will be credited to the Dynamic Duo of David Warner and Johnny Bairstow. The opening pair have tormented any and every bowler that has been put in their way and same was the case today as well.

Things would have been much different had Bairstow’s catch been taken on 1 by Cariappa.

But he got a lifeline and made the most of it. He was in destructive form alongside Warner and the pair demolished the opposition after bringing up yet another 50 stand and smashing a massive 72 runs just inside the power-play, the highest this season.

The pair continued the onslaught as the brought up another century stand in no time.

Defenders of the Orange Army, Kings of the House Sunrisers!

Bairstow added insult to injury after smashing Cariappa for 34 in his first two overs, bringing up his half-century.

His partner on the other end brought up two milestones in the meanwhile.

The partnership was followed by this amazing stat.

The partnership was finally broken on 131 after Prithivi Raj cleaned up Warner on 67. However, Bairstow stayed put as he went unbeaten on 80, smashing 2 sixes on the last two balls of the 14th over, to lead SRH to a 9 wicket victory with 30 balls to spare.

Moment of the Match

Bairstow was dropped on 1 by Cariappa, proving extremely costly as he went on to make runs and it is definitely our Moment of today’s Match.
