IPL 2019: Match 32 – Kings XI Punjab vs Rajasthan Royals (Pots-Match)

In the 32nd match of this year’s IPL – Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) vs Rajasthan Royals(RR), a composed 85 run partnership between Rahul and Miller and brilliant bowling performance led the Kings to the all-important victory.

Match Report

It was the first time since the highly controversial ‘Mankad Incident’ that these two teams squared off against each other. Kings were on the receiving end as they lost out to RCB for their first win in this year’s IPL. Rajasthan, on the other end, defeated MI to claim their 2nd victory of the season. With the 2 points very crucial for both the sides, Rajasthan won the toss and chose to field first.

1st Innings: Scintillating start by the top order

It was all Chris Gayle as Kings got their innings going. KL Rahul started off pretty slowly, 4 from 13 balls, but Chris Gayle was all guns blazing, hitting sixes and fours for fun. Gayle hit 3 massive sixes and 2 boundaries for a 22 ball 30 before he was dismissed by Archer. Archer was back in the game when he took a brilliant catch at long-on to dismiss Agarwal who was looking very dangerous after scoring 26 from just 12 balls.

Rahul, who had a very slow start to life, slowly started to come into life as he brought up 1000 runs in IPL.

He was joined by David Miller and the pair put up a very brisk stand of 85 runs.

Rahul also brought up his 14th IPL half-century.

The partnership was finally broken by Unadkat who got the danger man, Rahul, for 52. Archer also struck twice in the 19th over, finishing with 3 for 15 in his 4 overs.

But Ashwin played a gem of a cameo at the death, smashing 2 sixes and a four for a 4 ball 17 run innings.

Kings finished with 182/6 on the board in their 20.

2nd Innings: Arshdeep strikes on debut

Arshdeep was making his debut and he bowled a fantastic first over to start off with. Although he got hit for two fours, he had the last laugh after taking the big wicket of Buttler (23) who was looking very dangerous.

Tripathi, who was promoted up the order, looked very good after hitting a couple of stylish boundaries. Partnering him was Samson, who played a small little inning of 27 as the pair brought up the fifty partnership. Samson was dismissed for 27 after Ashwin cleaned him up. Tripathi, meanwhile, brought up his half-century.

Ashwin turns the fortunes

Rajasthan were looking very comfortable after being put in pole position by the brilliant 59 run partnership. However, Ashwin broke the partnership and he followed it up with another two wickets, getting Tripathi on exactly 50 and spoiling Turner’s debut but getting him out on a Golden duck.

Muhammad Shami and Arshdeep took another 3 wickets between them as the Kings restricted Rajasthan to a score of 168/7, winning the match by 12 runs.

There were scenes of jubilation as the 20-year-old debutant, Arshdeep Singh got the all-important wicket of Buttler and it is our moment of the day.
