IPL 2019: Match 30 – Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (Post-Match)

In the 30th match of this year’s IPL – Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, a scintillating performance with the ball got Delhi a well-deserved victory.

Match Report

Delhi vs Sunrisers was a very important encounter for both the sides as the win would have brought Delhi 3rd and Sunrisers 2nd on the table. Delhi won their last match comprehensively by 7 wickets while Sunrisers were on the receiving end. With the all-important 2 points in sight, Sunrisers won the toss and fielded first.

1st Innings: Khaleel sends the openers packing

Sunrisers got a great start with the ball, courtesy a fine spell by Khaleel Ahmed. Shaw and Dhawan opened the innings together but their stays were brief. Ahmed (4) edged one to Bairstow after being undone by some extra bounce. Dhawan, Hyderabad’s hero from the last match, also got a short one only to pull it to Bhuvi at fine leg.

Resurgence from the middle order

Munro, who had just joined Iyer at the crease, didn’t waste any time in opening his account. He hit a four and a six to start off his innings. He put up a nice partnership of 49 runs with Iyer who also looked pretty good. Munro hit 7 boundaries as he managed 40 runs from just 24 balls.

Abhishek got his wicket with a well-disguised leg-cutter after being hit for a massive six. Iyer was now joined by Pant and the pair were involved in a 50 plus partnership.

Wickets at the death

Delhi looked all set to post a big target courtesy a brilliant partnership by Pant and Iyer. However, Sunrisers somehow managed to get back in the game as they started picking up wickets. A total of 4 wickets fell in the last five overs as Delhi stumbled in their way. Iyer (45) was dismissed by Kumar after he too failed to negotiate extra bounce. Ahmed got his 3rd of the night after getting Pant for 23.

Delhi managed to finish with 155/7 in their 20 overs.

2nd Innings: Another 50 run partnership for the Dynamic Duo

The duo of David Warner and Bairstow has been unstoppable for a number of matches in this year’s IPL. Both the batsmen once again demonstrated their sheer class once again, starting off with a few glorious boundaries as they scored 40 runs in the power play.

The pair also brought up yet another fifty partnership between them.

Bairstow, however, couldn’t go on to score a big one as he fell for 41 from 31 balls, caught by Rabada off of Paul’s bowling. The pair was at it once again after they combined to dismiss Williamson for just 3 runs with Rabada taking a breath-taking diving catch. Meanwhile, Warner had brought up yet another IPL half-century.

Delhi wreaks havoc

Bhuvi couldn’t really get going and fell for 7, giving Paul his 3rd of the night. Rabada was brought back into the attack and he caused absolute carnage, getting two big wickets in 2 balls.

He got the big wicket first after dismissing Warner for 51. Shankar (1) followed him on the very next ball after edging one to Pant. Morris’ one-upped his compatriot after taking 3 wickets in the same over, completely demolishing the Sunrisers. Rabada got another two in the very next over to wrap up Sunrisers’ innings, bowling them out for 116. Delhi won the match by 39 with Rabada taking 4 and Morris and Paul both taking 3 each.
