In the 27th match of this year’s IPL – Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals, a breath-taking 89 from just 43 balls by Buttler earned RR a much-needed victory.

Match Report

The two teams in action today were involved in two very intriguing matches previously. Both the matches finished on the very last ball as Mumbai chased down 197 but Rajasthan narrowly missed out to CSK.

Rajasthan were in dire need of a win as they chose to bowl first after winning the toss.

1st Innings: De Cock and Sharma lead the charge

Coming back to the side, Rohit Sharma was partnered by De Cock in the middle. Both the batsmen took the cautious approach in the first two overs. Come the third one, de Kock and Sharma decided to up the ante. Hitting a massive 13 boundaries, the pair brought up a blistering 96 run stand, 57 coming just in the powerplay.

The partnership was broken on 96 after Archer got Rohit’s wicket but not before he made a scintillating 47 off 32 balls.

Meanwhile, de Kock brought up hiswell-deservedd half-century soon after.

Quinney kept on hammering the bowlers while wickets started falling from the other end. Pollard couldn’t get going today as he fell for just 6 runs as Archer got another one.

Archer got his 3rd of the night when he got another one in Quinney who departed for 86 including 10 boundaries. Hardik Pandya scored a quick-fire 28 off just 11 balls that included 3 sixes and a four as Mumbai finished with a very decent 187/5 in their 20. Archer stood out with his 3 big wickets for just 39 in his 4 overs.

2nd Innings: Rahane survives an early scare

It was a very dramatic start to the Rajasthan innings. Rahane was dropped off of Behrendorff’s ball by Rohit when he was batting on naught. He was also given out on the last ball of the first over but he took a brilliant review as the ball was going high.

Rahane and Buttler punish the Indians

After surviving the early scare, Rahane got into his own as he started playing some glorious shots. He was partnered with Buttler who also looked in ruthless form. The pair combined to score a 50 partnership, scoring 59 at the end of 6 overs.

Rahane was caught at deep mid-wicket when Pandya dismissed him for 37. However, Buttler just continued to rattle the Indian bowlers. 100 was brought up for the Royals with Buttler bringing up his half-century as well.

Buttler scored another 50 partnership, this time with Samson as the Royals had the target in their sights.

The match was turned completely in the 13th over when Buttler caused absolute carnage. Facing Joseph, he smashed a six off the very first ball, followed by 4 fours and a six to finish off, scoring 28 of that particular over.

He departed in the very next over to Chahar at long-off for a wonderful inning of 89 from 43 balls including 15 boundaries.

By the time Buttler departed, the damage had already been done or so it seemed. Samson chipped in with a decent 31 run inning before departing to Bumrah. Things took an unwanted turn for the Royals when Pandya got both Livingstone and Tripathi in the same over for 1 run.

Rajasthan lost Smith (12) in the very next over as they lost 4 wickets for just 4 runs. However, they managed to hold their nerves as Gopal hit the winning runs, remaining unbeaten on 13. Rajasthan got the much needed 2 points after winning the match by 4 wickets.
