IPL 2019: Match 26 – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals (Post-Match)

In match 26 of IPL 2019, which was Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals, DC saw a marvelous inning of runs by Shikar Dhawan as they took the much needed 2 points.

Match Report

Kolkata vs Delhi promised yet another thrilling encounter with Delhi in dire need of a win. Kolkata, in contrast, were sitting comfortably at the 2nd position in the table but a recent demolishing at the hands of Chennai would have given some hope to Delhi.

Winning the toss and bowling first has been a norm in this year’s IPL and today was no different after Delhi won the toss and decided to field first.

1st Innings: Gill counters DC’s wonderous start

It was a sensational start to the innings for DC.

Ishant opened the bowling for DC and he got off to a flyer after rattling Denly’s off stump and backing it off with a maiden over. However, Gill got off to a wonderous start of his own as he smashed his first ball for a delightful four. Both the batsmen started dealing in boundaries, weathering the early storm. Gill, alongside Uthappa, made sure no more wickets fell as the pair put up a 50 run stand. Robbie fell to Rabada for 28 after Pant took a fantastic diving catch.

It was a very disappointing batting performance from the rest of the batsmen as wickets fell in regular succession but Gill held one end firmly and brought up a very fiery half-century from just 34 balls.

Gill (65) got unlucky after he picked short fine-leg with a well-timed shot and with the rest of the batting crumbling, in came Russell. He smashed the bowlers for fun, hitting them for fours and sixes all over the park, striking the ball at a massive rate of 214 as he hit 3 fours and 4 sixes.

De Russ departed for 45 off just 21 balls. Afterward, Chawla hit 14 off 6 at the death as KKR finished with a very good score of 178/7 on the board. Morris, Rabada, and Paul were all expensive but all three managed two wickets each while Ishant got one scalp.

2nd Innings: The Dhawan of old!

Just like the bowlers, the batsmen too got off to a flyer. Shaw hit Furgeson for two maximums in the second over while Dhawan opened his account with a six followed by a four. Shaw (14) was dismissed after Dinesh Karthik took a sublime catch diving to his right. His wicket was followed by Iyer’s (6) after Russell got the breakthrough.

Despite this, Dhawan was on a mission today as he recaptured his lost form and showed his true self today. He was involved in a glorious partnership of 105 runs with Pant.

He also brought up his 34th IPL half-century along the way.

Pant fell for a brilliant 46 from 31 but Dhawan ensured his stay at the crease as he led his team over the line with an unbeaten 97 runs. With this, Delhi got the much-needed win as they won the match by 7 wickets.
