IPL 2019: Match 22 - Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kings XI Punjab (Post-Match)

In the 22nd match of this year’s IPL – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kings XI Punjab, a magnificent 114 run stand made it all too easy for the Kings as they took the 2 points.

Match Report

Both the teams facing today had lost their previous matches. SRH’s middle ordered was exposed in that match as their openers didn’t click for the first time. Similar was the case with KXIP as their middle order didn’t offer much. With both the teams looking to turn things around, Ashwin won the toss and chose to bowl first.

1st Innings: Warner at it again

SRH, surprisingly, started off very slowly early on as both Warner and Bairstow looked shaky. Bairstow’s stay at the crease didn’t last long, falling for just 1 run with Ashwin taking a good diving catch at short mid-wicket. Warner, who had just 3 runs from 14 balls up until now, kept on playing slowly as he lost another partner in Shankar (26) to Ashwin.

Warner finally hit top gear, hitting a couple of boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking while he lost partners from the other end.

SRH reached the 100 run mark as Warner brought up yet another half-century in this year’s IPL.

Hooda came in and scored a 3 ball 14 run cameo while Warner remained unbeaten on 70 as the SRH finished with 150/4 in their 20 overs.

Shami, Muneeb ur Rehman and Ashwin, all picked up 1 wicket each.

2nd Innings: Easy does it!

The pitch looked a little tricky to bat on as was evident with Warner’s innings. However, Chris Gayle only knew one way to bat, unleashing a monstrous six over long-on. Unfortunately, he didn’t last long, unleashing another one towards long-on only for Hooda to take a brilliant catch. Rashid Khan got his first of the night and he looked very dangerous but credit to the KXIP batsmen, who negotiated him perfectly.

With 38/1 in the power play, both Rahul and Agarwal took the cautious approach as they looked to chased down the target. However, once their eye was set, it seemed all too easy for the Kings. The pair eased their way to a 100 run stand while bringing up their half-centuries.

Rahul brought up his 3rd IPL fifty this year.

Agarwal didn’t stay behind, bringing up his half-century as well.

The partnership of 114 runs was broken by Sandeep after he got Agarwal for 55. KXIP found themselves in a bit of disarray when they lost 2 quick wickets, Miller and Mandeep falling for 1 and 2 run each. However, Rahul’s stay at the crease ensured KXIP didn’t suffer a setback as he remained unbeaten on 71 to carry the bat. Kings chased down the target with 6 wickets and 1 ball to spare.
