IPL 2019: Match 21 - Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Post-Match)

In the 21st match of IPL – Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders, KKR once again took the victory and went on top in the points table.

Match Report

Rajasthan Royals have also had a very poor start to the campaign, with just 1 victory in 4 matches. They defeated the bottom placed RCB for their only victory. Contrary to it, their opponents, KKR, have had a rather good start to the campaign. Their recent victory was against the RCB where they chased down a mammoth target of 206 runs. Playing here today on a slowish pitch, KKR would have hoped to continue their stellar form as they won the toss and chose to bat first.

1st Innings: A below par performance despite Smith’s Heroics

The pitch was predicted to be a tad too slow from the batting point of view and this reflected in the score that Rajasthan had put up. Rahane’s (5) early dismissal meant that Smith was at the crease very early. He partnered Buttler in the middle where they put up 72 run stand in 64 balls.

Buttler departed for 37 from 34 balls but Smith continued on as he brought up his half-century.

However, he never really got any support from the other end once Buttler fell and despite his sumptuous innings of 73 not out from 59 balls, Rajasthan could only manage a below par total of 139/3 in their 20, considering the fact that they had only lost 3 wickets.

Gurney had a fantastic debut, picking up 2 wickets in his 4 overs.

2nd Innings: Carribean fireworks from Narine

WHAT A START!

Chasing down a small target, KKR had absolutely no pressure as Narine absolutely murdered the Rajasthan Bowlers. Facing his very first over, he hit 4 fours and a six as KKR got moving.

He was dropped in the next over he faced and that came back to haunt RR as he continued the onslaught. Lynn also joined in the fun, hitting boundaries of his own. With this, the pair brought up their 50 run stand and the highest power play score in this year’s IPL.

Narine unluckily fell on 47 from just 25 balls but Lynn went on to make his half-century.

Lynn went for exactly 50 when Gopal picked him up for his 2nd of the night. This was, however, not enough as the damage had already been done significantly. Uthappa came in to score a fiery 25 from 15 including 2 maximums KKR chased down the target with 8 wickets and 37 balls to spare.

Moment of the Match

The moment of the match has to be that massive over where Narine hit 4 fours and a 6 to set tone for the run-chase.

Man of the Match

Gurney won the man of the match for his superb bowling performance.
