IPL 2019: Match 17 – Royal Challengers vs Knight Riders (Post-Match)

In the 17th match of this year’s IPL – Royal Challengers vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Russell’s fireworks at the death snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as KKR took the match.

Match Report

Kolkata knight Riders had a great start to the tournament, winning 3 of their matches. On the contrary, RCB had the worst start, losing all 4 of their matches and plummeting at the bottom of the table. Their top guns had all been misfiring up until now and they were due a big innings after being put in to bat first by KKR.

1st Innings: Big Guns finally deliver

Both the big players, Kohli and AB, had been a disappointment up until now as RCB found themselves in shambles. However, today was a do or die sort of situation and they stepped up when it mattered. Kohli, opening the innings, went after the bowlers right from the get-go. Patel provided great assistance from the other end but it was all Kohli as the pair brought up half-century stand in no time.

After Patel went for 25, Kohli found himself the perfect partner in AB de Villiers as the pair found form at the right time. Both the batsmen brought up their half-centuries in no time, bringing up the 100-run stand as well.

Kohli brought his half ton in just 31 balls.

Kohli also achieved this amazing feat.

AB also didn’t hold back, making his presence known with his 30th IPL half-century.

The RCB skipper departed for a 49 ball 84 but he had done the damage as RCB finished with a mammoth 205/3 on the board.

2nd Innings: Lynn and Co. show fight

In réponse to a mammoth total, KKR lost Narine early for 10 after he failed to negotiate a 142 Kph bouncer. It was all in Lynn’s and Uthappa’s hand now and both the batsmen played out of skins, putting up a 65 run stand. Lynn scored a brilliant 43 off 31 before he was cleaned up by Negi. Uthappa pushed on but he soon fell after on 33.

Russell’s Destruction

This was when Andre Russell came at the crease. The task was humungous as KKR needed a massive 30 run from two overs but all it took was 5 balls from Russell to change the course of the match. He hit 4 sixes and a four in just 5 balls as KKR did the unthinkable, winning the match from an almost lost situation.

KKR won the match by 5 wickets and 5 balls to spare as Russell remained unbeaten on 48 from JUST 13 BALLS, including 7 maximums. This win also meant that RCB have now lost all 5 of their matches.

Moment of the Match

The moment of the match surely has to be Russell’s demolishing 28 in just 5 balls as KKR won the match.

Man of the Match

Andre Russell got the man of the match.
