There have been reservations about IPL 2019 being held in India due to the General Elections in April/May this year which is why many people are keeping a close eye on the news and fixture announcement related to the tournament. According to a credible source – Mumbai Mirror, it was expected that the fixtures for IPL 2019 will be announced on 4th February but now it has been stated that the fixtures will be announced with a further delay of one more week.
One of the BCCI officials stated:
“We’re working closely with the Election Commission and all the authorities concerned and hopefully it will be out in a week.”
It is expected that the fixtures will be announced by the BCCI once the General Elections schedule is announced by the Indian Election Commission. Earlier this year, it was thought that the entire tournament might be played in another country but this was denied by the BCCI stating that IPL 2019 will not go outside India.
Changes that might occur in IPL 2019 schedule due to the General Elections
The tournament is already starting earlier due to the Election year as BCCI announced earlier that IPL 2019 will commence from 23rd March 2019. Usually, the tournament starts in the month of April.
Another issue that the officials talked about was the non-availability of all the home venues for the IPL franchises. This will be settled with the franchises before the tournament informing them about the number of matches they might not get to play at their home ground.
The announcement of the schedule will be a tentative one this year, which means that it will depend on the circumstances within the country around the time of General Elections and BCCI will hold the right to make changes as necessary.
It is already expected that the tournament will end earlier than the previous seasons not only because of the Election year but also due to the ICC World Cup 2019 which is set to start on 30th May 2019 in England. We have already seen so many stars back-out of the tournament because of the hectic schedule this year and in order to prepare for the upcoming World Cup.
The IPL 2019 auction happened on December 18, 2018, and now everyone is waiting for it to start. However, if the conditions do not allow, this won’t be the first time that the Indian Premier League will be moved outside India as this has happened earlier in 2014 when part of the tournament was played in the United Arab Emirates due to the same cause, i.e General Elections 2019.
