With the grand finale – Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 is over and the 4th time champion has been revealed.

Match Report

It proved to be a tricky toss to win for Mumbai Indians as Rohit Sharma decided to bat first in Hyderabad. The batters put on a dismal performance in the final as they posted 149/8 thanks to Kieron Pollard’s cameo at the end. The chase was up and down for quite some time, however, another Rohit Sharma added another IPL title to his portfolio at the end of it.

1st Innings: Openers Start Briskly

Mumbai openers, Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma, started things brilliantly, putting on 45 in 4.5 overs when de Kock fell to Shardul Thakur.

Two Wickets in Three Balls

A wicket off the 5th ball of the 5th over to remove de Kock, followed by another wicket off the 2nd ball of the 6th to send back Rohit Sharma made sure Mumbai didn’t have an easy time posting a big total.

Tahir Takes Two Crucial Wickets

Wickets tumbled all throughout Mumbai’s innings as South African leggie, Imran Tahir also picked two wickets to remove Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan.

Pollard Adds Some Respectability

If not for the West Indian smasher Pollard, Mumbai would have been reeling. He smashed 41* from 25 to make sure the bowlers had something to bowl at, as they put 149 on the board.

2nd Innings: du Plessis Comes Out With Intent

South African batsman, Faf du Plessis hammered 26 from 13 despite the fact that Shane Watson was very cautious at the other end. He departed in the 4th over.

The Big Match Player, Watson Spurs Magic

Despite a sluggish start, Shane Watson – who was the man of the match in the previous IPL final – once again looked to take the game away from Mumbai as he ended with 80 from 59 balls.

His dismissal in the last over changed things for Mumbai as they managed to win the contest by a margin of just one run.

Bumrah, Malinga Star with the Ball

Rohit XI have the best death bowling experts without a doubt and it was on full display at Rajiv Gandhi stadium tonight. Just when you thought CSK would get over the line with ease, in came Bumrah to tighten the screws.

However, the last over by Malinga needs all the applause as the 35-year-old has still got it in him. He defended 9 in the last over, including a wicket off the last ball when Chennai needed 2 to win and 1 for the Super Over.

Moment of the Match

Watson’s run out in the last over while trying to sneak a double to get back on strike was the moment of the match.

Man of the Match

Jasprit Bumrah won the man of the match award for his brilliant bowling.
