The first eliminator – Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – has produced some breathtaking moments as Delhi finally got over the line after a tense finish.

Match Report

It was one gem of a match at Visakhapatnam as Shreyas Iyer decided to field first after winning the toss. After restricting Williamson’s men for 162/8, Delhi batters chased down the target after plenty of drama in the middle to advance to the second eliminator where they will face Chennai Super Kings.

1st Innings: Guptill Smashes as Saha Departs Early

SRH openers, Martin Guptill and Wridhhiman Saha started quite well, as they added 31 in 3 overs. Saha was slow and Delhi bowlers made sure that he didn’t get going. He departed after scoring 8 runs from 9 balls.

Guptill, on the other hand, batted as a smasher, hammering 4 sixes in his 19-ball 36. However, Amit Mishra removed him in the 6th over at team score of 56/2.

Handy Contributions from Middle Order

It was not an easy day for the batsmen as none of the batsmen managed to get past 40. However, the middle order including Kane Willaimson, Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, and Mohammad Nabi added twenties and thirties to take the score to a decent one.

Wickets Tumble at the End

After that, there was the controversial run out of Deepak Hooda which sparked plenty of debate in the cricketing circles. SRH lacked finishing touches to the innings as they posted 162/8 in 20 overs. Keemo Paul ended with figures of 32/3 in 4 overs.

2nd Innings: Fifty Stand for the Openers

Delhi openers, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan made sure they started the right away in a do or die situation. The first wicket fell in the 8th over as Dhawan was stumped off the bowling of Hooda at the team score of 66.

Prithvi Shaw Raises Fifty

The prodigy, Prithvi Shaw impressed with his big match temperament, scoring a crucial fifty just when his team needed it most. He made 56 from 38 balls to set the tempo for the chase and allow the finishers like Rishabh Pant to close the game for Delhi.

Rashid Sparks Some Magic as Pant Demolishes Bowlers

Just when everyone thought the game was done and dusted, Rashid Khan did something spectacular. He had other plans as he removed Colin Munro and Axar Patel in a space of 3 balls to dent the chase big time. He finished with figures of 2 for 15 in 4 overs including one maiden.

However, Rishabh Pant made sure SRH didn’t get too much of an advantage. He struck 5 sixes in his 49 runs from just 21 balls to bring Delhi ever so close to victory.

Super Over in Sight as Paul’s Four Wins it for Delhi

It looked like a straightforward win for Delhi however, some late wickets inspired some hope for Sunrisers. It was a game of controversies as Amit Mishra was ruled out for obstructing the field in the last over. It had little impact on Keemo Paul who was cool as a cucumber when he hit a four off the penultimate ball of the innings to knock out Hyderabad.

Moment of the Match

The second-last ball of the innings yielded a four just when there looked chances of a Super Over.

Man of the Match

Rishabh Pant’s innings was crucial to get his team over the line despite falling in the last overs.
