India’s national selectors named the 15-member squad for the World Cup 2019 today during a press conference in Mumbai. After months of deliberation, the panel finally selected the most deserving 15 who would represent their country at the international arena. The side will be led by World number one batsman Virat Kohli and has some of the greatest names of the cricket fraternity. It sure seems a strong squad as it has a combination of some incredibly talented players.

A power packed team

India has included some of the best batsmen in the squad, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli leading the attack coupled with stellar performances by Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik, one can’t shy away from saying that India’s batting attack is lethal and might give a lot of teams a run for their money. Meanwhile, the presence of experienced bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami will lift the team further and would provide strength to Indian bowling, something which has always been a concern for the selectors and management. The inclusion of Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also a great sign that India’s pace department is in safe hands.

The big surprises

One of the biggest surprise given to the fans was the exclusion of star player Rishabh Pant, everyone expected him to definitely make it into the final 15 but luck was not on his side. Veteran wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik was given preference over Pant. Another shocker was the entry of Kedhar Jadhav into the squad.  Although he did not give any major breakthrough performance yet he was given a chance.
