Now that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 is over, it is time for the HBL PSL 2019 team of the year. As is the case with any PSL team, the overall team of PSL 2019 must have one emerging and four overseas players.
Starting with the captain, the modern-day legend, AB de Villiers leads the PSL 2019 team of the year. The team has been picked by a panel comprising of Mudassar Nazar, Ramiz Raja, and Danny Morrison.

Here’s how the team stacks up:
- Shane Watson (QG)
- Kamran Akmal (PZ) (WK)
- Babar Azam (KK)
- AB de Villiers (LQ) (C)
- Colin Ingram (KK)
- Asif Ali (IU)
- Kieron Pollard (PZ)
- Faheem Ashraf (IU)
- Wahab Riaz (PZ)
- Hasan Ali (PZ)
- Umer Khan (KK)
- Sandeep Lamichhane (LQ)
The team includes 4 players from Peshawar Zalmi, 3 from Karachi Kings, 2 each from Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars and 1 from Champions Quetta Gladiators. The sad part is that no one from Multan Sultans could make it to the overall team of PSL.
Let’s have a look at why these players were selected in the team.
- Shane Watson
The Australian all-rounder ended as the highest run-scorer in PSL 2019 with 423 runs at an average of 47.00 in 12 innings.
- Kamran Akmal
The second highest run-getter, Kamran Akmal was an automatic choice because of his role as a wicket-keeper. The Peshawar Zalmi opener amassed 357 runs in 13 innings with 3 half centuries.
- Babar Azam
The star batsman, Babar Azam scored 335 with 3 fifties with a best of 77. His average of 30.45 is miserly as compared to Ahmad Shahzad who blasted 311 runs in 8 innings. The choice raises eyebrows as Babar and Shahzad both played as openers in PSL.
- AB de Villiers
Despite a short stay at the PSL, AB de Villiers has been chosen as the captain of the PSL XI for his average of 54.50 from 7 innings. His innings against Multan Sultans will be remembered as one of the best in PSL history.
- Colin Ingram
After a poor start to the tournament, Colin Ingram got going with a record-breaking century against Quetta Gladiators to power his team to victory. His 344 runs in 11 innings earned him a place in the PSL XI.
- Asif Ali
The hard-hitting lower order batsman from Islamabad United, Asif Ali embraced the role of a finisher in this season and helped his team win a few matches from crunch situations. He hit 26 sixes, the most, in this year’s PSL and his strike rate of 182.46 speaks for his match-winning abilities.
- Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard’s 282 runs at a strike rate of 173.17 with 23 sixes and 5 wickets made sure he was an easy choice for the selection panel.
- Faheem Ashraf
For his 21 wickets and six-hitting prowess in the lower order, Faheem Ashraf has been awarded a place in the team as a bowling all-rounder.
- Wahab Riaz
Another PSL, another successful campaign for the speedster as Wahab Riaz ended with 17 wickets with an economy of 6.78.
- Hasan Ali
Hasan Ali has a knack of making records and he did it again with 25 wickets, the highest ever in PSL history.
- Umer Khan
The left-arm spin prodigy from Karachi Kings impressed us all with his ability to take big wickets at crunch moments.
- Sandeep Lamichhane
The young leg-spinner from Nepal added as the 12-man has traveled all across the globe for different T20 leagues, impressing everyone with his guile and wicket-taking abilities. He took 11 wickets in 7 innings in PSL 2019.
Quetta Gladiators earned their first ever PSL title despite making it to the final on 3 occasions in 4 years. Cherish the memorable final night here.
