Euro T20 Slam Teams
Earlier, a joint venture by Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland and the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB) announced a first of its kind league for European cricketers.
The league will feature cricketers from these three countries in addition to foreign contingents like the other major T20 leagues. Two teams from each country will make an appearance in the inaugural season of the tournament.
According to the details, the names are as follows:
- Amsterdam Kings
- Rotterdam Rhinos
- Glasgow Giants
- Edinburgh Rocks
- Dublin Chiefs
- Belfast Titans
The details regarding the Euro T20 fixtures are yet to emerge, however, the opening and closing dates have already been revealed. More details regarding Euro league schedule, venues and timings will be announced on 30th April by the legendary duo of Wasim Akram from Pakistan and Dilip Vengsarkar from India.
Euro T20 Slam Format
The two former captains will announce the details in Dublin at the end of this month. When it comes to league’s format and schedule, the league will be played on a round-robin format, meaning that each team will play every other team once and the top 4 teams will make it to the semi-finals followed by the grand final. There will be a total of 33 matches in the league.
Euro cricket league presents a brilliant opportunity for young players from Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands to showcase their skills and make a name for them. The league can open new avenues for youngsters as well as for senior cricketers from these countries to press hard for selection in other important leagues like the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Indian Premier League (IPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Big Bash League (BBL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) among others. The inclusion of Nepalese prodigy Sandeep Lamichhane and Iceland’s mystery spinner Kató Jónsson in IPL highlights the opportunity for new and exciting names to become a part of top global cricketing leagues.
The Euro T20 Slam bodes well not just for the players from the three participating countries but for world-renowned cricketers, especially from the West Indies like Andre Russel, Sunil Narine, Chris Gayle, DJ Bravo among others. A few Pakistanis will also be hoping to get on a plane to Europe and be a part of the inaugural edition of the tournament. Players like Sohail Tanvir, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Imad Wasim who play all around the world in T20 leagues, will be among hot picks at the drafts.
The marquee players are yet to be announced and we can expect a number of West Indians in the top players. Players from other cricketing nations would also want to become a part of the history and play for Europe’s own cricket league.
Team Selection Rules
While stacking up the teams, the owners will have to follow the rules regarding players.
The rules state that each city will have to draft at least 9 domestic cricketers and a maximum of 7 overseas players from around the globe.
