Eng vs WI 3rd Test: Root’s batting put Windies in a tough spot to win

Eng vs WI 3rd Test 3rd Day

It was all England show at the Day 3 of ENG vs WI 3rd test match.

It was a great start by Windies when Keemo Paul had Rory Burns out on the first ball of the day to put England at 19 for 1. But since then, luck was also on the England side when Hetmyer dropped a simple catch of Denly off Gabriel’s bowling in the slips. A hard fought innings from Jennings came to end when he was bowled by Jennings by Joseph. He scored 23 from 99 bowls and he might find it difficult to find a place in the upcoming Ashes squad after scores of 17, 14, 8 and 23. At lunch, England were 108 for 2 with the lead of 231.

At the 2nd session, England started to increase the lead and in the process, Denly scored his fifth half-century. The partnership was finally broken when Denly gave a thin edge to the keeper off Gabriel’s bowling. It was a fine inning of 69 runs by Denly. At tea, England was leading by 330 runs.

After tea, both batsmen started to take advantage of tired Windies bowlers and first, Root gets to his half-century and then Buttler joins him soon after. Joe Root and Buttler then went on to add 107 to the 4th wicket. The partnership was finally broken when the new ball did the damage.

It was a relief for Root to reach his century after having a poor show with the bat in the previous 2 matches. This was his 16th test ton and at the end of Day 3, England was playing at 325/4 with a lead of 448 runs. Root was playing on 111 while Stokes on 29 and Windies now need a miracle to get something out of this match.

Now the match is heading to the 4th day, and the West Indies look like in a tough position to win the match.
