In a surprising move, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Selection Committee has called four new players for the fitness test. The lucky ones include Umar Akmal, Ahmad Shahzad, Wahab Riaz, and Iftikhar Ahmed. Earlier, a list of 23 players was announced by the cricket’s governing body for the test scheduled on April 14.
According to the details, the additional players have been called due to their recent performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 and the ongoing Pakistan Cup. Only 15 of these 27 players will take the flight to England and Wales for the mega event.

While the majority of the spots for the squad are almost finalized, there can be a few surprise last-minute inclusions and these four players may be filling one of those slots. Earlier, the bowling coach, Azhar Mehmood had said that one or two bowling spots were up for grabs and looking at the recent performances, Wahab Riaz might win the race. He has had an amazing PSL, yet again, and now Pakistan Cup.
Iftikhar Ahmed has scored two centuries and one half-century in three innings and he is currently the second highest run-getter at the Pakistan Cup with 268 runs. Umar Akmal stands at the third spot with 242 runs in 3 innings with a best of 136*.
Ahmad Shahzad hasn’t had a very good Pakistan Cup but his performances at the PSL speak for themselves.
