Chennai Super Kings is the defending champion, having won the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2018 by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the grand final. It’s another year with another challenge awaiting all franchises. IPL 2019 promises to be a bigger, better and more glamorous event than ever before and that’s the reason everyone is looking to buy match tickets for their favorite teams including CSK.
Banking on the services of experienced players like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, and Harbhajan Singh, Chennai Super Kings will be a tough side to beat. Despite being labeled as an ‘old team’ and written off early in the season, the franchise led by Dhoni proved that experience is the key in the franchise-based leagues.
CSK’s IPL History
CSK is easily the best team to have played the IPL making to 7 finals with 3 titles in 9 outings. The team was suspended for two years (2016, 2017) before returning to win the title in 2018. The worst team position for CSK was in 2009 when it played the semi-finals.
If we have to associate one word with Chennai, it has got to be consistency. The results are almost unreal as no other team matches CSK when it comes to overall results.
Home Ground – M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Home to Tamil Nadu cricket team in the domestic cricket, M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai was founded in 1916 and it is the third oldest stadium in India. The 50,000 capacity ground hosted its first test match way back in 1934. Since then, it has hosted 32 test matches, 22 ODIs, and 2 T20Is.
The ground is named after MA Chidambaram who is a former President of the BCCI. The ground is known for its neutral crowd which supports and appreciates good cricket. The crowd gave Saeed Anwar a standing ovation when he blasted 194 against India. The Chepauk stadium, another name for the ground because of its locality, is the home ground for CSK ever since the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. Much like the Bengaluru stadium, MA Chidambaram’s layout consists of stands starting from A going all the way down to I with upper, lower and hospitality boxes. Other stands include Pavilion Terrace and T3 Terrace etc.
