In the only test played between Afghanistan and Ireland, a scintillating display from Afghanistan over the course of 4 days sealed a historic test victory.

Day 4 Report

Afghanistan closed the day at 29/1 with some fine display of bowling by Rashid Khan in Afghanistan vs Ireland Test.

Looking to seal the test, Afghanistan started day 4 of the test match needing a further 118 runs.

Rahmat and Ihsanullah ooze class

Ireland were hoping against hope as they looked to take the remaining 9 wickets of Afghanistan. However, Afghanistan were having none of it as they looked in the mood of sealing the test match as soon as possible.

After ending Day 3 on the crease, Rahmat Shah carried over his fine form from the 1st innings as he played some magnificent shots. He was joined by a very aggressive Ihsanullah. The team needed a further 65 runs as Rahmatullah brought up his successive half centuries.

Ihsanullah also didn’t stay behind as he became the fourth Afghani Batsman in this test match to bring up his maiden half-century.

Afghanistan were never really troubled this morning as they played some really aggressive cricket, giving nothing away to the Irish Bowlers. Both the batsmen put up a magnificent 139 run stand. Afghanistan lost 2 wickets right at the end but it was all in vain as Afghanistan chased down the target of with 7 wickets and almost 2 full days remaining. Rahmat Shah stood out with 76 runs as Ihsanullah remained unbeaten on 65.

Afghanistan make History

Afghanistan has achieved an incredible feat as they win their first test match ever having only played one test before. They were duly congratulated by Ireland.

The future looks really bright for Afghanistan as they trade their luck in playing red ball cricket against the top teams in the world, and with the Cricket World Cup 2019, this will be a huge boost for the team. As for Ireland, they should keep their heads high as they have a magnificent group of players capable of challenging the top teams.
