Afghanistan vs Ireland Test: Day 3 Report


After a good performance from Afghanistan on Day 2 of AFG vs IRE test, Ireland came to resume their batting.

Day 3 Report

Ireland trailed by 120 runs as they resumed they day 22/1 on the board, as Afghanistan looked to wrap up proceedings early.

Ireland put up a fight

Looking to fight their way back into the game, Balbirnie started on the front foot. Ahmedzai got Stirling early for 14 but Balbirnie continued to play his shots. He was joined by McCullum and the pair put up a wonderful 104 run stand as Balbirmie brought up his half-century.

Rashid Khan shows his class

Salamkheil broke the all-important partnership when he got Balbirne for 82 who was gutted to have missed out on a ton.

After that, it was the Rashid Khan show. He got his first when he trapped McCollum in front for 39. Kevin ‘O Brian played well from the other end, bring up his fifty as well but Rashid ran riot at the other end, picking up his maiden five-wicket haul in test cricket.

Murtagh to the rescue once again

With Ireland 9 down for 230, things were not looking pretty for them. However, they found resistance in the form of Murtagh once again as he brought up a 50 run stand with Cameron-Dow for the 10th wicket. Ahmedzai cleaned up as Ireland were bowled out for 288 on the board, with Afghanistan requiring 147 for victory.

It’s Afghanistan’s game to lose

Afghanistan are 28/1 as the day 3 stumps. Ihsanullah Janat is on the crease with 16 runs while Rahmat Shah has scored 11. They need another 118 runs with 9 wickets remaining to win the match.

Will Afghanistan be able to defeat Ireland in the only Test match or will Ireland make a comeback? We will have to wait and watch.
