Afghanistan shatters multiple T20I records as Zazai scores 162*

Afghanistan vs Ireland 2nd T20

Afghanistan and Ireland battled in the second fixture of AFG vs IRE 3-match T20I series today at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. It was a thriller to watch as multiple international records got shattered by the Afghan Batsmen. Let’s have a look at the match report.

Afghanistan innings

Afghanistan played some destructive cricket from the very beginning of their inning. The openers provided a 236 runs stand which helped Afghanistan put up a huge total of 278 runs in 20 overs. With this, Afghanistan has broken some international T20 records. Let’s have a look at them.

  • Highest ever total

Afghanistan posted 278 runs on the scoreboard which is the highest target set by any team in T20Is. The previous highest total was 263 by Australia against Sri Lanka back in 2016 at Pallekele.

  • Most Sixes by a batsman

The Afghan opener Hazratullah Zazai has been in great form in recent days. He smoked 16 huge sixes in today’s match which is the most by an individual in a T20I match.

  • Highest partnership

Both Hazratullah and Usman Ghani together added 236 runs to the team’s total which has now become the most for any wicket in T20Is.

  • Hazratullah’s unbeaten 162

Hazratullah also broke the highest score in a T20I by an Asian. He scored a blistering knock of 162 and remained not out. He fell just 10 runs short of the highest individual score of 172 by Aron Finch.

Ireland’s Innings

The Irish batsmen took a good start as they came to chase the gigantic total set by the opposition. The opener Stirling smashed 91 runs on just 50 balls but it all went in vain as no other batsman stayed on the pitch with him. Rashid Khan again came up with his magical spin bowling and got 4 wickets.

Ireland managed to score 194 in 20 overs as Afghanistan won the match by 84 runs.

Man of the match

Hazratullah Zazai was given the man of the match award for his brilliant 162* runs innings.
